Bachelor of Science Degree

What is a bachelor of science degree?
A bachelor of science degree is a general course of study that highlights many of the aspects involving liberal arts with the inclusion of math and sciences and how they apply to different areas of industry. Because it is so broad, this type of degree offers many opportunities to try different things and see what you prefer. Most people specialize in one area or another, or several, after earning this type of degree, however, there are many jobs you can get if you hold a bachelor of science degree alone.
According to the National Science Foundation, a bachelor of science degree is a great way to land a job in a number of industries, even without specialization. Although many people do not specifically work in a science-related area with this type of degree, the NSF has found that at least 63% of graduates in a non-technical job did use their degree in at least some area of their jobs.
What types of things can I study?
When you pursue a bachelor of science degree, you will study a liberal arts tract of courses such as English, humanities, social sciences and psychology, however, because this type of degree has a more science-based focus than a traditional bachelor of arts degree, you will take courses such as calculus, chemistry, astronomy, physics and biology. Usually, you will also spend a lot of time doing hands-on work in laboratories, observatories and other places where you can put the sciences into practical use.
After taking the liberal arts portion, you may also elect to take several courses in areas of particular interest to you, outside of the other sciences. Here, most people choose to take courses in areas they plan to specialize in.
